Airtm Card is a virtual USD prepaid Visa tied to the Airtm account and its main USDC balance. Rather than functioning as a card connected to a self-custodial wallet, it sits inside Airtm’s broader payments infrastructure, where users receive, hold and move digital dollars and then transfer part of that balance to the card for spending. Airtm itself describes its core balance as USDC.
The card is virtual-only. It can be used for online purchases, subscriptions and international payments, while Apple Pay and Google Wallet support extends it to physical point-of-sale transactions where mobile wallets are accepted. There is no physical version or ATM functionality to account for.
Funding and card balance
The card does not spend directly from the main Airtm balance. Funds first need to be moved to a separate card balance through the card dashboard. Once loaded, that balance is used for card transactions.
This separation also affects withdrawals from the card. Airtm does not currently offer a standard transfer from the card back to the main balance. To recover the remaining funds, the card has to be deleted, after which the balance is returned to the Airtm account minus the applicable deletion fee.
For users who already receive payments through Airtm, this setup is relatively straightforward because the card uses the same account environment. The underlying Airtm balance is denominated in USDC, including funds received through supported stablecoin payment methods that Airtm converts into USDC before crediting the account.
Fees and limits
Issuing the first Airtm Card is free. Airtm’s public product page currently states that a 1% fee applies to the first $200 loaded during each calendar month, while additional loads above that cumulative amount are not charged a loading fee. That puts the advertised maximum monthly loading fee at $2.
The Help Center uses slightly broader wording and refers to the loading fee as variable, with the exact percentage shown in the card interface. For that reason, the live quote in the dashboard should take precedence over the public marketing rate if the two differ.
There is no regular monthly fee while the card is being funded and used. If no funds have been loaded for 30 days, however, Airtm applies an inactivity fee to the card balance. The amount is displayed in the dashboard rather than published as a fixed universal rate.
The daily spending limit is $2,000. Card funding limits follow the withdrawal limits assigned to the user’s Airtm account rather than a separate universal card limit.
Availability and verification
The card is not available everywhere Airtm operates. Airtm currently states that the USD Virtual Prepaid Card is available to users with verified residence in more than 15 supported countries, while the wider Airtm platform covers a much larger geographic footprint.
Special Features KYC is required before issuance. Users who have already completed the same verification for another eligible Airtm feature do not need to repeat it. Activation can take from a few minutes to up to two business days, depending on the account and verification process.
Usage restrictions
The card supports general online and mobile-wallet payments, but Airtm lists several restricted merchant categories. These include gambling, firearms, drugs, adult services and certain financial-services businesses. The full prohibited-use list is determined by the underlying card provider and can change over time.
