About Avalanche Card

About the card

The Avalanche Card is a crypto-backed Visa card that allows you to spend your USDC, USDT, AVAX and WAVAX anywhere Visa is accepted. When you make a purchase, the merchant gets paid just like with a traditional credit card. The card is offered by Rain Liquidity, a financial technology company rather than a bank, and is issued by partners licensed in their respective jurisdictions.

Background

The Avalanche Foundation announced the launch of the card in partnership with Rain on February 26, 2025. It was designed as an alternative for emerging
markets, where access to traditional banking is limited, and was first activated at ETHDenver, where attendees were among the first to get a physical card.

Terms and fees

FX fee is 1%; the monthly fee, virtual card issuance, physical card, and shipping all cost $0. No credit check is required, and Avalanche Card charges no gas or conversion fees, although you may still pay gas fees directly to the network.

Key features

The assets securing your account are owned and held by you; neither Avalanche Card nor Rain Liquidity is an asset custodian. Your spending power updates in real time, and you can add the card to Apple Wallet or Google Pay, manage it, or close it right in the app. You can request up to 3 virtual cards and 1 physical card per account, but only one of each can be active at a time.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18, a legal resident of a supported country or region, have a valid phone number, and provide valid, non-expired ID. The card is currently available in many U.S. states, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The official site also lists excluded countries and U.S. states.

How to get the card

  1. Download the Avalanche Card app and enter your phone number.
  2. Complete KYC verification: full name, email, date of birth, SSN or national ID number, a government-issued ID, and a selfie. This usually takes a few seconds, but can take up to 72 hours.
  3. Once approved, open the app, tap "Tap here to activate card," and add the virtual card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
  4. If needed, order a physical card. Delivery usually takes 14 to 30+ business days.
